ROKO Health Club opens in Gillingham

ROKO Health Clubs, the health and fitness centres owned by the Sports and Leisure Group opened its 4th health club in Gillingham on 2nd January 2006, following the successful line of sites previously opened in Nottingham, Portsmouth and Bournemouth.

The ROKO Health Club site in Gillingham is 32,000 sq ft with 200 car parking spaces, and has successfully rolled out the full Roko health club model at the cost of £5.5m in new investment. The Gillingham health club is complete with a 10,000 sq ft gymnasium, Fitlinxx software, 75 studio classes per week ran in 3 studios, beauty therapy supplied by Elemis, crèche, club lounge, 2 swimming pools and spa.

As a measure of ROKO’s marketing success, the Gillingham site managed to attract 3,000 full paying adult members before its opening, and its first quarter results have seen full paying adult membership grow to 4,300. The total number of full paying members rose to 4,600, just four months after its opening.

ROKO health clubs’ membership retention strategy is also a key part of the business’s success. The average number of visits members made to the Gillingham site in March was 7.7, significantly ahead of industry averages.
